چکیده

Chronic myeloid leukemia or chronic myelocytic leukemia ( Ghanei and Vosoghi, 2002) is a type of blood or bone marrow cancer which is characterized by an abnormal increase of white blood cells, by the presence of the Philadelphia chromosome and the t(9;22)(q34;q11) translocation (Rowley,1973; Faderl et al., 1999). CML is more prevalent in males as compared to females (Redaelli et al., 2004). A number of factors have been implicated to play role in the development of this disease. Several studies have shown the assoc iation between genetic alteration/s in the precursor hematopoietic cells with the risk to develop CML ( Meggyesi et al., 2011). Exposure to endogenous or exogenous toxic substances can lead to genetic alterations and hence increased susceptibility to cancer. Cells have developed an effective mechanism to prevent accumulation of damaging xenobiotics by way of their elimination catalyzed by multiple enzyme

Genetic polymorphisms of glutathione-s-transferase M1 and T1 genes with risk of diabetic retinopathy in Iranian population

Objective(s):To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the contributions of GST genetic variants to the risk of diabetic retinopathy in an Iranian population. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine whether sequence variation in glutathione S-transferase gene (GSTM1 and GSTT1) is associated with development of diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D...

Glutathione S-transferases Null Genotype in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia

Background: The glutathione S-transferase (GST) family of metabolising enzymes plays an important role in the detoxification of mutagens and carcinogens. The expression of many of these cancer susceptibility enzymes is genetically polymorphic. An increased frequency of GST-null genotypes has been associated with several malignancies. Objective: To investigate the rate of GSTT1 and GSTM1 null ge...

Investigation of SMAD3 and SMAD4 genes expression in CML patients and K562 cell line and association with chronic myeloid leukemia

Aim and Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a clonal myeloproliferative disorder with cytogenetic characterization of the abnormal Philadelphia chromosome. This chromosome results from a reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22. This is an important signaling pathway in the process of cancer cell proliferation and apoptosis, as well as the pathogenesis of TGF-β disease, i...

بررسی همزمان پلی مورفیسم های ژن‌های,GSTM11GSTT و ارتباط آن‌ها با مقاومت نسبت به داروهای شیمی‌درمانی در بیماران مبتلابه سرطان مری

Background: Genetic polymorphisms in enzymes involved in carcinogen metabolism have been shown to influence susceptibility to cancer. The glutathione S-transferase (GST) genes are involved in the detoxification of a broad range of toxic substances, so polymorphic deletions of GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes may involve as a risk factor for esophagus carcinoma. The aim of this research was to investigate ...

Association between GSTM1 and GSTT1 polymorphisms and susceptibility to methamphetamine dependence

Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs; EC: 2.5.1.18) are ubiquitous multifunctional enzymes, which play a key role in cellular detoxification. Functional genetic polymorphisms in genes encoding GSTM1 (a member of GST class mu; OMIM: 138350), and GSTT1 (a member of GST class theta; OMIM: 600436) have been well defined. The functional null alleles of GSTM1 and GSTT1 represent deletions of GSTM1 and GS...
